Often when on the mat rewarding our feet with a “point, demi-point, flex” (you know —ballet slipper, high high heel, earth shoe) I remind us that it’s not about the number of repetitions, but about the foot being able to receive the stretches. It can be like that off the mat as well, especially when on trips. Rushing, filling in every moment with lots to do, but not really being able to enjoy what we’re doing.
Over this past weekend Ron and I went to Corpus Christi to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary at the SunSpree in North Padre Island. You might ask if we went to the Texas State Aquarium, or did we tour the Lexington? Did we visit any of the many parks, the Wildlife Refuge or even go shopping at downtown Corpus Christi? So many items on the Must See, Must Do lists.
In fact, we did very little but enjoy the beach, the birds we could see from our balcony
and just received
this little stretch of time to really relax. In the past we might have
spent our time doing and not being — having a good time, sure — but not
really celebrating our relationship and our time together.
The money we saved from entrance fees, buying stuff we don’t really need and gas to get to all those
places, we spent on a room that had a great view of the beach and boardwalk. We pampered ourselves in small inexpensive ways so our environment could be the best we could afford and stay on budget.
Next time you’re planning a trip, give yourself the chance to really receive all that’s around you.
Slow
down and enjoy not only where you are, but also the people you’re with — including yourself. Who knows, you might find the time to just be your silly self.
With the new 2011. Year! Congratulations.
